“Opposition [to abortion expansion]…is required on moral grounds, indeed on basic human rights grounds. Our opposition… is not designed to condemn, shame or single out individuals. The complex conditions which often bring women to undergo an abortion should be acknowledged and recognized. In the face of these situations, the appropriate attitude should be compassion and care. In the Archdiocese, we attempt to offer both through Pregnancy Help and the Project Rachel program. Our deepest concern is to provide help and support to women.”
Cardinal Seán O’Malley, OFM Cap.

Project Rachel is a confidential ministry of the Catholic Church that offers hope and healing for women (and men) in pain from past abortions.
Project Rachel takes both its name and mission from the Old Testament passage of “Rachel Weeping” (cf Jer 31:15-17) – Rachel weeping for her children “who are no more”. In the Scripture passage, the weeping Rachel encounters the merciful love of God who wipes the tears from her eyes and offers her the promise of hope for her future. Today, through the Church’s Project Rachel ministry, God’s tender love and mercy is offered to those experiencing post-abortion pain, regret and grief.
Project Rachel offers both one-on-one and small group opportunities for healing including:
More than 500 women have participated in our one-day “Come to the Waters of Healing” retreat. If you are in pain from a past abortion experience, we invite you to call or email to discuss which services would best address your needs.

“With great affection I urge all future mothers: keep happy and let nothing rob you of the interior joy of motherhood. Your child deserves your happiness. Don’t let fears, worries, other people’s comments or problems lessen your joy at being God’s means of bringing a new life to the world. Prepare yourself for the birth of your child, but without obsessing, and join in Mary’s song of joy: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit exults in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant” (Lk 1:46-48). Try to experience this serene excitement amid all your many concerns, and ask the Lord to preserve your joy, so that you can pass it on to your child." Pope Francis~Amoris Laetitia, No. 171
A Parish Baby Shower is a unique and meaningful way by which parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston provide life-affirming assistance to women and babies vulnerable to abortion. Through the Parish Baby Shower program, the Pregnancy Help ministry of the Pro Life Office matches the generosity of parishioners with the current needs of clients being served. Thanks to the support of parishes, all the mothers served by Pregnancy Help receive a customized layette prior to giving birth with essential clothing items, blankets, bibs, bottles, diapers and toiletries. Clothing for the first nine months after birth is selected by sex, size, and the time of year the baby is born. Many women continue to receive assistance from Pregnancy Help as their babies grow, so there is also a need for larger size diapers and toddler clothes.
The showers provide much-needed clothing and material goods. They also bring God’s love to families facing very difficult circumstances.
If your parish would like to participate in the Baby Shower program, please contact Clare DiGiovanni, Office Manager for the Pro Life Office: digiov_c@rcab.org, or at 508- 651-1900. Clare will supply you with a bulletin announcement that lists needed items and a flyer that can be posted on the parish website or distributed to parishioners. This “wish list” is essential to having an adequate inventory to ensure families receive what they need. As the seasons change, so do the needs.Thank you!
